World Book Day

Class 2 had a brilliant day on World Book day sharing their fantastically decorated book bags and the books they had brought in, with children from the Year 5 class. We discussed the difference between fiction and non fiction (fact) books and shared examples of these from their book bags. In the afternoon the children took part in a live draw along session with a children's book author and illustrator.

Spring Term

Year 2 class have been very busy developing their writing skills by writing a story based on the book 'Lila and the Secret of the Rain'. To begin the unit they created their own pastel images depicting the weather in the story: hot, blazing sun and moody, thundery skies. They wrote their stories from the perspective of the rain and used wonderful imagery and personification. Our next unit has been all about travel journals and are now writing a travel journal based on an 'imaginary' visit to London and some of the city's sights.

Owl Visit

We've been looking at the story the Owl Who Is Afraid of the Dark as part of our English topic. To capture the children's excitement, we had a visit from Hoot With Me who brought four owls in to see the children. They got to hold an owl and learnt all about owls adaptations and characteristics.

Owl Visit

Experience Morning - We went out into the nature area to think about Red Reading Hood's journey through the woods to see what nature she might see and to come of with adjectives.

Drama Role Play

As part of our 'Little Red Reading Hood' writing unit, the children listened to another fairy tale 'Cinderella' and performed this in groups to the rest of the class.

Instructional Writing- Making Bird Feeders

The Owl who was afraid of the Dark- Experience Day, creating 'firework' art to reflect the vibrant fireworks in the story.
