Year 3

Summer Term 1

Welcome back Year 3

In our history lessons this half term we will be learning about The Romans. We will explore the influence of the Romans on Britain; investigate why they invaded and what daily life was like. We will find out about Boudicca and why she led a rebellion. This will link with our English work which will be based on the book, The Journal of Iliona by Richard Platt. In our science lessons, we will find out about the human body and the important role that the skeleton and muscles have to play in protection, movement and support.

Please see the curriculum map below for further information about our learning this half term.

Spring Term 2

Welcome back Year 3. I hope you have had a great week.

This half term, our English lessons will be based on the story, The Magic Paintbrush by Julia Donaldson. We will be writing our own traditional tales involving magic. We will also be learning about the customs and traditions of Ancient China; the setting of our story. In our science lessons, we will continue to learn about plants; exploring in greater depth the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants. Our art lessons will link closely to our science work. We will find out about Anna Atkins, a botanist who was fascinated by plant life, and make our own observational sketches of nature.

It is only a short half term but have lots of learning to pack in, as well as exciting activities for World Book Day and Science Week!

Spring Term 1

Welcome back Year 3! We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and a very happy start to the New Year. We would also like say a big thank you to everyone for our Christmas cards and gifts - your generosity and kindness was very much appreciated.

This half term, our history topic is Ancient Egypt. We will learn about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and what life was like for people during this period. In science, we will learn about the different parts of a plant and their functions, and we will investigate how water is transported within a plant. Our writing this half term will be based on Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll. We will write diary entries and biographies about Egyptologist, Howard Carter. In maths, we will continue with multiplication and division methods, before moving on to adding and subtracting money in practical contexts. Please see below some further information about our learning for this half term.

Forest School will be every Thursday throughout Spring term. Please make sure children wear their Forest School clothing to school as this will avoid too many different outfit changes throughout the day!

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

Miss Srokowski, Mrs Ladbrooke, Mrs Keeble and Miss Kidd.

Autumn Term 2

This half term, we will be learning about the geography of the UK  - from the physical features of mountains, rivers and seas to the man-made regions and counties. We will find out how London, and the UK as a whole, has changed over time. In our science lessons, we will learn about light, reflections and shadows. We will apply this  knowledge to our DT lessons by designing and creating shadow puppet shows. Please use the knowledge organisers below to help you support your child's learning at home.

Welcome to Year 3!

It has been a lovely first week back. We are all settling in well to school routines and looking forward the year ahead.

Please see below an outline of our learning for this half term. PE lessons will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays so please make sure that your child has their kit in school on these days. Art lessons will be on Fridays and it would be very helpful if your child could have a named apron or art shirt in school.

Homework will be sent home every Friday; please make sure it is returned to school by the following Friday when it will be marked together in class. All children have completed a reading assessment which determines their reading book level. Please make sure that your child is regularly reading to an adult and this is being evidenced in their reading record.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me through our class email: class3@blofield.norfolk.sch.uk

Thank you,

Miss Srokowski
