The Symbol of Light

Year 2 have been learning about the relevance of light in Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism. We have explored the festival of Divali, the symbolic meaning of candles in a Christian church, in diva lamps during Divali and in the menorah, used during the Jewish festival of Hannukah.

Christmas Church Visit - The children learnt about the christmas story, advent, the features of the church and talked about the stories represented on the glass windows, in particular the ones relating to local people of significance.

In RE we have been discussing the question 'Why do people have different views of God?'. This has led to many interesting thoughts and conversations. We have explored the question by learning about different religions such as Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism. We have heard viewpoints from children who practice these different faiths, looked at images and stories from each faith and explored how prayer and customs can differ between these belief systems too.

Autumn 2-

The children have been learning about the Nativity story and what this tells us about the birth of Jesus. We have had lots of interesting discussions and the class have read and seen different versions of the Nativity Story.

The children have been very busy making models of baby Jesus for a crib set, designing a fancy bedroom for Jesus as well as exploring the role of Christmas and the nativity story in our local community by creating a poster for a Christmas Fete at Blofield Church and making their own class calendar. Needless to say, they have also been very busy learning lines to narrate the Nativity story for their school performance and singing some fabulous Nativity songs!
