A video by Beth, Elise, Lauren and Amber

For the last 2 weeks we have been talking and learning about climate change. This topic came up naturally one afternoon and I decided to explore it further with the class as they were all really interested and of course, it is an important issue.

We spent some time learning about forests and the importance they play in the battle against global warming. One break time, I noticed a group of girls practising a performance of some kind so I went over to see what it was all about. I was blown away by what they were doing. They had all taken up their own time to write and practise this short speech.

'Believe in the power of your voice'

Well done girls!

Today, the children used clay and chose to make either a Greek vase, Mythical creature or a Greek God. They worked really hard and have all made a brilliant product! We will let them dry over night and then they will be bringing them home tomorrow. Enjoy! Mr H

Year 4 Weekly Update

Last week the children finished their Myths. They were all fantastic and we were really proud of how much effort they put into their writing. This week we evaluated those Myths by writing about what we liked and what we would change about them.

We have also been learning about the different Greek Gods and why they were worshipped. Next week, we will be using clay to create our own statues of these famous gods.

In Maths, we have been using column method to add and subtract. We have been using 2,3 and 4 digit numbers and have been practising exchanging. The children have really been challenging themselves!

We have also spent some time talking about climate change this week, we watched a video that explained the impact that humans are having on certain habitats and species and what we can do to help.

We haven't got long until half term so we will be spending the last few days finishing off our topic and reflecting on everything that we have learnt.

There will be no homework for next week and I will not be setting anything over half term so enjoy the break!

TTRS and Purple Mash will of course be available if you wish to use it.

Thank you,

Mr H

The children finished their Myths! This has been a really long piece of writing and I am so proud of what they have all produced. We have not been back at school long but they have all set the expectations really high with this piece of writing!

02/10/2020 - Weekly update

We started writing our Myths this week and they are going very well! The children have done some excellent writing so far and I am really looking forward to reading their work when they have all finished. We have tried to make our writing really interesting for the reader. We have done this by using powerful adjectives and a range of different verbs and adverbs. We have also been practising organising our writing using paragraphs and writing direct speech, the children have done a great job at punctuating it correctly so far.

In Maths, we have been learning about negative numbers, Roman numerals and continued to practise our 3,4 and 8 times tables.

In topic we have continued to learn about Ancient Greece and spent some time looking at the different Greek Gods. We then had a go at sketching some of these. It was brilliant fun!

25.09.20 - Weekly update:

We have had another productive week! In English, we planned our own version of The Minotaur and will start writing it next week. We also learnt about fronted adverbials and how to use them correctly.

In maths we have continued to recap 'place value' and have been representing numbers up to 10,000. We have continued to practise our times tables and will start on the 8 times table next week.

In topic, we learnt about The Battle of Marathon. This was a really interesting lesson and the children had some really interesting questions and thoughts on the battle. The homework this week will focus questions on this event.

We finished the week with some brilliant art, we looked at ancient Greek temples and had a go at sketching them. We looked at the shapes and angles and tried to get our drawings looking as life like as possible.

Have a lovely weekend, I will see you all on Monday!

A creative Friday! We made our own Labyrinths and Greek Vases.

17.09.2020 - Weekly update:

We have had another great week, it feels brilliant to be back with a full class of children and we have had lots of fun with our learning.

As part of our Ancient Greece topic, we have started reading 'The Minotaur' which we will eventually write our own version of.

Today we created our own mythical creature and the children came up with some brilliant ideas! Ask your child about their creature and see if they can remember it.

We also did some learning about Athens and Sparta and what they used to be like, there were big differences between the cities and the class had a debate about where they would have preferred to live.

In Maths we have been rounding numbers 0-10,000 to the nearest 10 and 100. We have also been practising our 3 times table.

In Geography we have been looking at European countries and the areas that were invaded by Alexander the Great during the height of the Greek Empire.

The children have worked really hard this week and I am really happy with the work they have all completed, it has been lovely to see how much they have all progressed since I last taught them.

Have a great weekend!

Homework update:

We will soon be starting an online system for homework. Until then, children will be bringing home their homework book with a homework sheet stuck in for them to complete. They can answer in their books and it will be due in the following Thursday ready to be marked on the Friday. We will mark it together in class.

Thank you,

Mr H

Children have now completed their star reader quiz and have been given a number range that they can choose from. Books will be in class and they can pick a new one once they have read and completed a quiz on the book they are currently reading.

They will be given a reading record - we are just waiting for more to arrive. If you have any questions about accelerated reader then please email me:

Thank you,

Mr H

Happy, smiley faces on our second day back at school!

Hello Year 4!

I hope you have all had a lovely summer, I am really looking forward to seeing you all again and can't wait to get started.

Although school will feel slightly different this year we are still going to learn lots and have lots of fun along the way. I will talk you through all the changes to our daily routine tomorrow morning so please do not worry.

We are going to learn about Ancient Greece this half term which will be a really interesting topic with lots to learn about.

Parents - I will be uploading the medium term plan for this half term early this week so keep an eye out for that. I will also be sending out a letter at some point during the week reminding you of our weekly routine and any other useful bits of information.

Thank you,

See you tomorrow.
