Year 2

Good afternoon Year 2,

It feels strange writing this when I have not seen some of you in so long - today has not really felt like the end of term. I have really enjoyed teaching you this year and I am very sad we did not get to spend the last term together.

You have all done such a fantastic job in coping with home learning and your new daily routines so thank you all for working so hard.

Thank you to all of the parents and grand parents who have been working hard in your new job as teachers! You have all done a great job and I have really appreciated your support through this time.

I have attached a summer learning pack and I will be keeping all the home learning on the website for the summer. You do not have to do this but it is there for you if you need it.

I hope you all have a great summer and I will see you all in September.

Take care,

Mr H

I have uploaded another weeks worth of work for you to be getting on with! I hope you have been enjoying the work I have been uploading. I know that it must be strange doing all your school work at home but keep trying your best, it wont be forever. smiley

Good morning Year 2,

I hope you are all well. The rain has returned! It has been a shame to be stuck in doors all weekend but my garden has really needed the rain so I am glad we finally got some!

Another week of home learning for you, you are all doing an amazing job, parents included - so keep it up!

Please email me if you have any questions, concerns or if you would like some feedback on the work you have been doing. I am in school all week but I am still checking my emails and the class page daily.

Have a lovely week,

Mr H

Tuesday D&T challenge - I would like you to design and then build a bridge.

The size and design of your bridge is totally up to you.

What you use, is totally up to you as well but you are only going to have things around your house or things you find in your garden.

I suggest deciding on what materials you want to use first, draw your design and then start making it.

Have fun!

Wednesday Computing - I have set 2 more coding activities on Purple Mash for you to complete. If you are having problems with logging on please tell me.

Thursday and Friday will be for PE, German and Music.

Guten Morgen!

This week, let’s have some fun putting conversations together using some of the vocabulary you know and some new phrases.  Use the attached sheets to create your dialogues, then see if you can practice with a member of your family or Skype / Facetime a friend in year 2.

Bis nächste Woche!

Hi Guys hope you are all well and that you had a good half term. I am missing the sunshine a bit at the moment as I am sure you are too. This week we are exercising and travelling around the world you can do as much or as little as you can and can repeat everyday until your new destinations come out. Stay safe and happy and I hope you enjoy this weeks work. Mr K

Race Around the World (more destinations to follow on Tuesday)

Good morning Year 2,

I hope you are all well and enjoyed the lovely weather during the break. I am missing you all and cannot believe how long it has been since we were all back at school together!

As you know, some year groups are returning to school this week which means all teachers are needed back. This means I will be uploading work weekly compared to everyday. The week will still be broken down into daily lessons, if you click on the English PowerPoint you will see I have timetabled in a different lesson for each day and the same for maths.

I have then attached a topic lesson for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be for PE, music and German. If you have any problems, questions or would like feedback on a piece of work then please email our class email - I will still be checking it daily.

Thank you all for your understanding, have a good week!

Mr Heasman

Friday PE - If you are looking for a break from Joe Wicks you could try some yoga. - This cosmic yoga for children tells different stories while you stretch and work. Yoga is great for the mind as well as the body so give it a try!

Mr H

Friday Maths Challenge Cards - Apply the method you have been practising this week to help you solve some of these word problems. The reason we learn how to add and subtract is so that we can solve real problems like these.

Wednesday 3rd - I have set 2 'to dos' on Purple Mash: These are coding activities, one you have done which will be a recap. The other gives you more freedom to create your own algorithms.

Hallo! Wie geht’s?

I hope you had a good half term and you are enjoying the' wunderbar' weather that we are having. This week we are going to revise and learn some more animals.  Use the Felix und Franzi video clip to remind you of some of the animals we covered and then have a go at the activity sheet. Viel Spass!

Good morning Year 2 and happy Saturday.

It is the end of another half term and I would like to thank you all for all the effort you have put into these last 8 weeks of home learning. Children, please make sure you say a big thank you to those who have been teaching you.

I will not be posting any work for the next week but everything we have covered will still be on the page if you feel that you need to revisit anything. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns (about anything) and I will get back to you as soon as I can:

Enjoy your half term week and as always, keep smiling.

Mr H

Friday 22nd English

Today I would like you to do some writing about your favourite Great Briton that we have learnt about.

There is no work sheet for this so please do your writing on your own piece of paper.

Think about who you enjoyed learning about the most and why, what was it about that person you really liked? Do you find them inspiring? Were you interested in the work they did? etc.

We have learnt about:

Samuel Pepys, Jessica Ennis, Roald Dahl, Tim Peake and The Queen.

Friday 22nd Maths - Times table practise. Spend some time on Times Tables Rock Stars and then pick one of the challenges below.

Friday 22nd Art

This week we learnt about The Queen and you should know that she lives in a palace but also owns lots of other royal buildings such as castles.

Kings and Queens have always historically live in castles and palaces because of their wealth. I would like you to have a go at drawing your own palace or castle!

Imagine you are Queen or King and designing a brand new palace/castle for yourself, decorate it however you would like!

Hallo! Wie geht’s?

Since it is half term next week I am providing you with a range of activities which will keep you busy for up to 2 weeks.  Do as little or as much as you feel like.  The main thing is to enjoy practising your German during this time.

  1. Interactive games:

(Practise the following topics: Colours, Days of the Week, Greetings and Numbers 1-12 Memory Game.

  1. German Handwriting Practice

Wednesday 20th English - you do not need to use the activity sheet if you do not want to. You could do your writing on your own paper.

Wednesday 20th Geography

Tuesday 19th English

Tuesday 19th Geography

For Geography today I would like you to move forward from the work we did yesterday. I would like you to study the environment around you, your surroundings. Make a list of all the human and physical features you can see, make a note of where they are because tomorrow we are going to have a go at making a map!

Monday 18th Maths - Today is a revision session and all about identifying 2D and 3D shapes. Focus on just the names of the shapes today - we will be moving onto properties tomorrow. You could try to find out the names of shapes I have not provided. Can you find out what a ten sided shape is called?

Friday 15th Maths - Practise your times tables today. Go on to Times Tables Rock Stars first then choose a challenge.

Friday 15th Art - I saw this and thought it looked really cool! The idea is to draw half your face how it looks on the outside and then on the other half draw what is inside. Your feelings, your hobbies, the things you love most etc. See the example and have a go!

Thursday 14th German Storytelling

Guten Morgen! Wie geht’s?
This week I have a storytelling task for you. You probably already know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in English but let’s have a go at seeing what some of the German words would sound like. Listen to the story and see if you can match up the German and English words on the activity sheet. Viel Spaß!

Thursday 14th Music

Wednesday 13th Topic

Yesterday I asked you to design a rocket. Today I would like you to have ago at making it. Try to stick to your design criteria but do not worry if your final product looks a little different to your drawing!

Once you have made it you could evaluate your product:

Do you like it? Why?

Was it easy to make?

Why did you choose the materials you did?

What would you do differently?

Tuesday 12th English - choose which text you would like to read.

Tuesday 12th Topic

I would like you to design a space rocket with the aim of making it.

This means I want you to realistically think about the materials or things that you have in your house that you could use.

Once you have done this I would like you to draw what your rocket is going to look like.

Label its features and what it is made out of. Be creative!

Parents: If you are unable to make this due to lack of resources, do not worry. They can still design their own rocket without actually making it.

Monday 11th Maths - The focus today will be on coin recognition. Being able to identify the coins is vital to having a greater understanding of money.

Monday 11th Topic - Choose which sheet you would like to do from the PDF below. Read the PowerPoint first, it will give you lots of information about the solar system!

Good morning Year 2,

I hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed the sunshine! I spent the weekend relaxing and enjoying the weather... until Sunday that is!

This week we are going to be doing some learning about Tim Peake and space. Tim Peake was the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station, launching on 15 December 2015. This is a fantastic achievement and certainly somebody who I think is a big inspiration.

In English we will start by learning about Tim before we move onto more general writing/reading activities.

In Maths we are going to be learning about money and our topic work will centre mainly around space and the solar system.

Thank you to Mr K who has uploaded a new PE challenge for you to try! Scroll down to have a go.

I have uploaded new spellings for today as I did not set any on Friday. Have a good week!

Mr H

Hi to all families. Just a fun challenge for you this week I hope you enjoy and feel free to use other movements if you would like to. If your super bored and would like some more challenges look on the PE pages and I will put 2 more on there for you. They are quite hard but make of them what you want I did set them for years 5 and 6. I hope you have a good week and am looking forward to seeing you when we return to school. Mr K

Mr K's Hungary Caterpillar Challenge

Here is a challenge for all the family just try to walk for as long as possible and have rests if you need them

Good morning Year 2,

I hope you are all keeping well. It has been really nice to hear from some of you this week and see some of the things you have been doing at home!

This week we are going to learn about Roald Dahl, our English activities will focus on the stories he wrote and the characters he created.

In maths we will be learning about fractions, we covered this fairly recently but it is important to keep practising topics such as fractions as it can be a bit tricky.

Below, I have attached a weekly plan for our learning. This will give you a rough idea of what we will be doing throughout the week.

I hope you enjoy this and have a good week!

Mr H

Thursday 7th English

I hope you enjoyed describing some of Roald Dahl's characters, my favourite will always be the BFG.

Today I would like you to create your own character, use Roald Dahl as your inspiration! He created characters that were human and some that were not... that is the brilliance of fiction writing. Be creative! Draw your character first, you may want to draw a few before you decide on your final one. Then describe it for me, what does it look like? Is it human or something else? Is it small, big or massive? What does it sound like when it walks and talks? Can it speak English or does it speak something else? I want to know everything about it.

There is nothing to stop you writing a story about this character if you want to!

Have fun, I look forward to hearing about some of these characters.

Thursday 7th Handwriting - You do not have to do all of these. It is good to keep practising !

Today, please practise your times tables. I have attached some sheets but log on to Times Tables Rock Stars as well and practise on there.

Remember, our focus is 2, 5 and 10 times tables but you can always challenge yourself if you feel that you are ready. I suggest moving on to the 3 times tables if you fancy a challenge.

Wednesday 6th German

Still image for this video
A fun cross-curricula activity, combining German with a fun workout. Macht Spass! Enjoy!

Tuesday 5th English

For English, like the weeks before I would like you to research and find out as much as you can about Roald Dahl. I have attached a PowerPoint and a fact file to get you started.

I have then attached a fact file template for you to write about him, you do not have to use this. You could write down what you find out on a blank piece of paper.

In Maths today I would like you to start by reading through the PowerPoints answering the questions as you do.

Then have a look at the booklet I have uploaded for today - there is lots to do on there and do not worry, I am not expecting you to do it all today! Find one or two pages you like the look of and have a go.

Try to challenge yourself!

For maths today I have attached some addition and subtraction word problems. These are to see if you can apply some of the maths we have been practising. Remember to read the questions carefully.

Don't forget to practise your timestables on rockstars!

I have updated it today so that you have the appropriate tables to practise. Remember, in Year 2 our focus is the 2,5 and 10's.

Mr K´s Cha Cha Slide

Hi Guys hope you are all well and that you have had a good week. Here is a fun activity for you and your family if they want to and have the time to have a try. I have put it on all of the years class pages but don't worry if you cannot do much or any of the activity. If you really enjoy it do it 2 or 3 times a day until next Friday when i will set you another challenge. Have a great week and i hope the song does not annoy you too much parents. Mr K

Thursday 30th English

Over the next two days I want you to create either an information leaflet or a poster.

You can either write about: Jessica Ennis-Hill or the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

The purpose of this is to inform the reader about everything you have learnt this week. So for example; if you choose to write about  healthy living you may want to title your leaflet 'Staying healthy!' and then think of the different things you could write about - diet, exercise, the benefits etc.

Whatever you choose to write you may want to consider including the following features:

- A title

- Subheadings

- Clear paragraphs

- Eye catching pictures and fonts

- Punctuated sentences

- Relevant  facts and information

You could also do a little research to begin with to see what kind of information leaflets and posters are already out there!

Have fun with this, I look forward to seeing some of your work.

(I have attached leaflet templates below)

Mr H

Thursday 30th Maths

Thursday 30th Science

We have been learning about how to keep the human body healthy so today's task is going to focus more on the bones and muscles our body has. With out these bones and muscles we would struggle to do anything.... which is why we must look after them!

Take the quiz below to see how much you already know. We have already learnt about some of the bones so I am hoping that some of these you will be able to do without using the sheet for help. However, it is there for you if you need it.

Start with activities 1 or 2 before moving on, enjoy!

German Revision Song about Greetings

A lovely way to revisit vocabulary that you already know and introduce a few variations on how things are said.

Wednesday 29th German

Norfolk School Games Virtual Challenges (only if you can and want to do them) Mr K

Tuesday 28th English

Tuesday 28th Health activity

As we are learning about a great athlete this week we are going to spend our topic lessons learning about the human body and keeping fit/healthy. This is of course is very important for athletes but important for us as well.

We will start today with looking at healthy living - the importance of exercise and a healthy diet!

I have attached a healthy dinner plate activity in which I would like you to create a healthy dinner! If you cant print the resources remember you could draw your own.

Secondly, I have attached a 'exercise log' - something to fill in throughout the week. It will be interesting to see how much exercise you do in a week! Remember playing games in your garden can still be exercise.

Spellings - from next week I will set weekly spellings as usual but I thought it would be beneficial for you to see the following documents. I have attached the tricky words that we learn in Year 2. You could perhaps pick three or four words to practise everyday. I have also attached words for Year 1 and 3.

Good morning Year 2,

I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the Easter sun. I will be uploading daily English and Maths work for you as well as work for other subjects. The topic for this half term is ‘Great Britons’ so each week we will learn about a different ‘Great Briton’ starting with Samuel Pepys.

Parents, if you have any questions/concerns or would like to simply share the work you and your children have been doing then please email me at: I will check this daily and get back to you as soon as I can.  Please also remember that there is no pressure for this work I am setting to be completed every day, use it in a time frame that suits you. We understand the pressures everybody is under at the moment and the health and wellbeing of you and your children should always come first.

Have a good week,

Mr H.

Thursday 23rd Art - Just a few ideas for you to try at home. I understand you may not have all the resources you need but if you have some black paper/background and an orange crayon you have a starting point!

Wednesday 22nd PE

I would like you to do some PE today, you have 2 minutes to get changed... go!

Well done, move your name up.

Start with warming your body up and try to list as many of the muscles as you can - I challenge you to name at least 6 different muscles.

After your warm up (that should include stretching and a short pulse raiser) I would like you to practise your throwing and catching. Think of all the sports we play where throwing and catching is important making it a good skill to have!

I suggest doing this outside with a ball of some description although if you have something else you could practise with... that wont break... then great!

If you have no one to practise with you can throw and catch to yourself. Try these challenges:

- Count how many times can you throw and catch to yourself without dropping it.

- Throw it up and see how many claps you can do before you try to catch it again.

- Throwing and catching with one hand.

- Throwing and catching while balancing something on your head.... I might try this today I think!

- You could also create your own throwing and catching game if you like!

Remember to do a little cool down afterwards. This is good for cooling down your muscles but also your mind.

Wednesday 22nd - Something to think about....

During the Great fire of London, the fire spread quickly. Why do you think this was and could anything have been done to stop it?

You could write down your thoughts if you like or simply have a conversation with somebody about it.

Tuesday 21st Computing - I have set two '2 do's' on Purple Mash.

These are both art related activities but I would like you to practise saving your work. Once you have done that, try to retrieve it and edit what you have done. This is an important skill when using computers - we save our work so that we can use it again and not lose what we have done so far.

Tuesday 21st Curriculum for life

During the great fire, Samuel Pepys buried some of his most valuable possessions to keep them safe.

If you had to leave your house quickly and could only take three items, what would you take and why?

This can be a discussion you have with someone at home but you could also write down your answer if wanted to.

Think carefully about what you consider valuable! I would like you to have a reason for each item....
