Summer 1

I hope you have all enjoyed your Easter break. A big thank you for the Easter goodies that we received, very kind of you!

Firstly, a reminder that it is our first Forest School session tomorrow afternoon. These will take place every Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Farrow, our trained Forest School Teacher. Please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear for all weather. I know the children are going to absolutely love these sessions!

P.E will continue to take place every Friday. We are also fortunate this half term to have a tennis coach coming in on a Tuesday and Thursday morning.  To make this easier and to avoid losing learning time first thing, please can your child come to school in their P.E kit on a Tuesday and Thursday, if possible. Please bring school uniform in a bag and they can get changed afterwards. Thank you so much – it will really help the children have as much tennis time as possible.

I’ve attached the homework to this post also. There will be no homework for the first week so please check the dates. Thank you for your continued support with this!

We will be looking at explorers this half term within History/Geography and will be continuing with materials in Science. We will also be focusing on Andy Warhol and his printing techniques, as well as our core subjects.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Cathedral Visit

On Wednesday, we visited Norwich Cathedral to participate in a 'simply sacred science day'. We learnt about the different materials within the cathedral, had a go at creating our own stained glass windows and tried to build our own arch using wooden blocks.

English Experience Day

Our new book is 'The Queen's Hat'. We read the story together and were immersed in which landmark the hat was going to blow to next. We enjoyed learning about the different London landmarks and having a go at creating some ourselves.

World Book Day

Today, we dressed as our favourite book characters. We had lots of fun visiting Blofield Library and creating our own characters using vegetables.

Spring 2

We hope you have had a lovely week off and are ready for the second half of the spring term. Our topic is 'Mission...Explore'. We will be focusing on our local area in Geography, materials in Science and creating moving picture in D&T. Please see the curriculum map and knowledge organisers below for further curriculum information.

P.E will continue to be on a Monday and Friday. Spelling quizzes and Maths homework will be due weekly on a Monday. Reading books will continue to be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Please make sure P.E kit and art aprons are in school at all times.

Thank you! :)

Dot Paintings

Today, we had a wonderful experience learning about African music. We were able to have a go with lots of musical instruments and participate in singing African songs and dance.

Spring 1

Welcome back!

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and spent lots of valuable time together.

Our topic this half term is ‘Around the World’. We will be focusing on continents and countries, in particular Australia. We will be looking at Australian landmarks and the differences between physical and human features. Continuing with this theme, we will be exploring the book ‘Wombat goes Walkabout’ in English and writing our own narratives. In Science, we will be learning about the different animal groups and carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The knowledge organisers and curriculum map are attached to give further information.

The homework sheet for this half term is also attached. We will be changing reading books on a Monday and Thursday. Please make sure reading is recorded in the reading records. We will not change books if they haven’t been read. As the children get further into Year One, the books become longer. Do not worry about reading a whole book at a time. We won’t change them if they are not finished. Spelling quizzes will be on a Monday and Maths homework is also due on Mondays.

P.E will be on a Monday and Friday. Please make sure children have their kits on those days. It is handy to have them in school all of the time if possible. If you would like your child to take their kit home to wash, please remind them before coming into school.

Please make sure your child has an art apron in school.

I am really looking forward to seeing you all and exploring this exciting topic. As always, if you have any questions or worries throughout the half term, please email me or catch me on the door.

Best wishes,

Miss Light J

Autumn 2

Our topic next half term is ‘Let There Be Light’. We will be looking at daily weather and seasonal changes within Science and Geography. In English, we will be writing poetry linked to fireworks and a persuasive leaflet for a new Christmas theme park, which we will create. Maths and Phonics will continue on from Autumn 1. We will continue with addition and subtraction, and then move onto shape. Within our Art sessions, we will focus on colour and Kandinsky.

P.E will continue to be on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please make sure your child has their P.E kit in school. Reading books will continue to be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays. Maths and Spelling homework will be set from the first Monday back. Below are any documents you might need.

I hope you have a wonderful final week and enjoy your well-earned break. Don’t eat too many sweets this Halloween! J

Gressenhall Trip

On Thursday, Year One and Two visited Gressenhall for a trip based around our 'Once Upon a Time' theme. We cleaned the laundry with the 'Ugly Sisters', we tried to find the glass slipper with Cinderella and went on a fairy tale trail around the farm. We were lucky enough to go on the tractor and have a potion making class with the Wicked Witch. In addition, we climbed the beanstalk with Jack and looked at the mysterious curiosities with the Curator. All in all, we had a fabulous time! :)

Growth Mindset

We discussed that we need to have a positive mindset to learning in Year One. We created flowers to represent our 'growth mindset' and to remind us to be positive when trying to complete tricky tasks.
