Autumn 2

The 2nd half of the autumn term has started with gusto! The class have settled back into the routines brilliantly and are enjoying our topics for this half-term. See below for the Autumn 2 Curriculum Map giving more detail about the topics we are studying in each subject. I have also included a breakdown of the various topics for the rest of the year should you wish to know in advance what we will be covering.

The theme for our learning will be Evolution and Inheritance. Where possible our subjects will link to this topic. In English we will be using the books The Last Bear and Can we Save the Tiger as inspiration for our writing. Our Science will look at the subject of Evolution and Inheritance as well as our learning in RE looking at the question 'Do creation and science conflict or complement each other?'

PE will continue to be Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our topics this half-term are Gymnastics and Netball. Children are to come into school on those days wearing PE kit please.

Homework

Reading

The expectation is that children read 5 times a week. We ask that reading records are in school every day and on a Friday they will be checked. Where possible, please could children complete their quizzes at home. Click the link here. Accelerated Reader 

Spellings

On a Monday, the children will be given a list of words for the week. As well as working on them in school, they will bring them home in order to practice them daily. Spelling books should be brought into school every Monday so new words can be inserted.

Maths

To begin with, there will be a piece of maths homework relating to the class work uploaded each week on a Friday. A paper copy will also be available too. This is optional but I would recommend that all children attempt it. The answers will be there too so self-marking is encouraged. After Christmas and as we approach the SATs, the homework will be tailored to help children prepare themselves for the tests.
