HOLIDAY DATES 2011-12

SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

PTA NEWS

PARENT/TEACHER CONSULTATIONS

Parent/Teacher consultations for all classes will take place the week commencing 6th February 2012. These consultations are a very important date in the school year as teachers will be giving progress reports on the children’s learning and will highlight aspects that can be developed over the remainder of the academic year. Ten-minute appointments will be allocated per child. It would be helpful if parents who do not live together could come at the same time to share the consultation, if at all possible. Appointment lists are posted on the classroom doors. It would be helpful if you could make day-time appointments wherever possible, as the late sessions can tend to get over-booked.

If you wish to see Mr. Burwood, Mr. Keating or Mrs. Laws, please arrange a convenient time via Mrs. Gitsham in the school office.

YR Monday 6th February from 1.30 p.m. & Wednesday 8th February from 3.30 p.m.

Y1 Wednesday 8th February from 3.30 p.m. & Thursday 9th February from 1.30 p.m.

Y6 Monday 6th February from 3.30 p.m. & Tuesday 7th February from 9.00 a.m. (Mrs Guest)
Thursday 9th February from 1.30 p.m. (Mrs Barber).

All classrooms will be open on Wednesday 8th February from 3.30 p.m. so please do take advantage of looking at children’s work at this time and seeing the wonderful classroom displays.

PARENTS OF SEPTEMBER 2012 NEW PUPILS

If your child is due to start school in September 2012 but you were unable to attend our recent Open Morning, please telephone the school office on 01603 713386 (or email to office@blofield.norfolk.sch.uk) to arrange a convenient time if you would like to visit us and look around the school.

SCHOOL CLOSURES DUE TO BAD WEATHER

With the weather forecasts predicting cold and possibly snowy days ahead, remember that the most reliable source of information is the Norfolk Schools website www.schoolclosures.norfolk.gov.uk.

If we make the decision to close the school because of poor conditions, this is where we will post the information. This is then used by local radio stations to broadcast. Mr Brand does an excellent job of clearing snow and gritting school pathways and we will endeavour to stay open whenever possible and safe to do so.

ROAD SAFETY

Once again, we have had several complaints about parking in the vicinity of the school. We must ask all parents to park considerately to ensure the safety of all our children:

• The yellow lines around the school must be kept clear at all times (unless a car displays a disabled badge).

• We would particularly ask that you DO NOT park directly outside the front entrance gate as this causes an obstruction to adults and children crossing the road.

• Please respect local residents and do not park in such a way that you obstruct access to their properties.

• We would like to remind you that the school car park is for staff and official visitors only. Parents may use this car park only after 4.00 p.m. Before school and during the school day, the car park is very busy with delivery lorries, official visitors and staff.

• The staff car park entrance must not be used by parents to walk children through to the front playground. All parents/children should enter school via the main gate at the front of the school.

• Whenever possible please walk to and from school or park at the shoppers’ car park in the village and walk to school from there.

• We would remind you that the speed limit around the school is 20 m.p.h. and again, we have received complaints that this is being exceeded by some parents.

We all have a responsibility to safeguard our children and have asked the police to regularly monitor both the parking and the speed of vehicles through the village. Thank you for your co-operation; we are sure that if we all work together our school environment will be a safer place for everyone.

SAT RESULTS

Blofield Primary has consistently achieved excellent SAT results at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We are often ranked significantly above Norfolk and national levels and the 2011 results ranked us in the top seven schools in the whole of Norfolk.

FUN TIME CLUB

Fees for our after school 'Fun Time Club' are £8 per session and there is a 10% sibling discount when siblings attend the same session. An annual registration fee of £15 per family is payable before children can attend any sessions. Bookings can be made direct to Karen – office@funtime-club.co.uk or by text or phone on 07787 402187 by 2.00 p.m. on the day the child is attending or in advance. Forms are also available in the school entrance foyer. Parents are very welcome to pop in to the Fun Time Club base (mobile at the rear of the school) any afternoon from 3.20 p.m. to see the wide range of activities available to children attending the Club.

PTA

Thank you to the PTA who have recently purchased new Waterhog matting for the children's entrances, digital cameras and new stage lighting!
